Long and Cold Winter
Long and Cold Winter
Written By: Jonny Johnson
You thought he was playing
But he wanted something more
The fun changed quick
Then you was out the door
It's happened to a few
And there's nothing you can do
It breaks my heart
That it happened to you
And when I find him
A ways down the road
He wears a new dress
And walks in disguise
His shadow he knows
It follows where he goes
I can see it in his eyes
You may never be his judge
And squirm at the thought of his touch
But I guarantee
He's got a heavy chore
The words he pours
Better come from his core
He's got a lot of explaining
His God surely holds a grudge
And late at night
I'll come across his grave
I'll be carving letters
Next to his name
His deeds are done
But they don't go forgot
There's blood on the soil
From he and all his lot
And you’re hard on yourself
When it’s you you blame
But it's not your fault
There's a place for he and his name
It's not your fault
You only stumbled upon a game
I know you'll find happiness
In whatever you do
And you'll soon be out dancin'
The way I've seen you do
And when it comes time
And you begin to remember
Just know that he's buried
In a long and cold winter
