Washington

Washington
Written By: Jonny Johnson

Did you hear what happened in Washington
Two teams fought thinking they both had won
It's all the clerk at the counter could say
Was who'd done what to whom today

Both played hard and they knew the game well
But the way it's scored makes it easy to tell
A fun and lively rivalry
Has a hard time stayin' when it loses its steam

The dying sport fought to keep its fans
Televised debates and public rants
All the players were takin' a knee
They're on the team but can't stand to believe

Now two men in prison for fixing the game
A society at fault but they caught the blame
In prison or at home they shake their heads
Each man wonderin' what could've been done instead

There's no more games left to play
They'll have to get their kicks another way
I hope someone treats them to dinner tonight
And they get some rest and to feelin' alright
