Other Side of the Road

Other Side of the Road
Written By: Jonny Johnson

They scream unfair, unjust
Signs of confusion spewed
Hashtag melodies
Sung and spread anew
A whole group condemned
It's few who grinned
As they look upon those
They thought they knew
On the other side of the road

Black and white, yellow and brown
Shoulder to shoulder in the class of clowns
Chicken scratch in the sand
Til one day they learned
To pride the skin on their hand
Suddenly now it's over there they stand
Just on the other side of the road

Mothers tell their kids, work hard, better days
Analysts say parents' behaviors are stuck in your ways
History says don't repeat the past
Psychologists tell you you can't escape the past
Friends with a grin say embrace the present
You wonder how anybody could amass so much presence
Now it's there they walk on the other side of the road

The more you hide, the more naked you feel
The harder you try, the more they steal
So many times you've beat your head against this wall
Its color's changed from hope to futile
Sometimes you see too far away
You've become short-sighted just a day too late
If only you could make it there
On the other side of the road

All that separates you and me
Is a romantic kind a comedy
For in the darkest hour
It becomes hard to see
The flow that shows
I am you and you are me
Then we see all that separates you and me
Is nothing but a silly folly, and
of accepting a moving truth
As a solid boundary
Yet, nobody knows
How anybody goes
To the other side of the road
